Replied to Discussion: Do you have any spam folder horror stories? by Jessica Best 2016-11-14 17:41:16

Yowch! Have you tried a re-warm up strategy already? Send to those 4% of gmail.com subs that are (magically) getting it for the next send, then send to 8% (including 4% of non openers that USED to open or something?), and work your way back up to the full list when you think you're back on track? I haven't been overwhelmed with the usefulness with Gmail's feedback loop, but maybe by signing up for it at least, you could learn something in aggregate (or they'll know you're trying to play by the rules)? Glad you found the deliverability issue early on when you got there!

Replied to Discussion: Image Blocking Percentages by Jessica Best 2016-01-22 22:42:11

Hmmm... That article specifically mentions that Gmail no longer blocks images:
"While Gmail isn’t blocking images any more, many email clients still do. "

Maybe that's the only one that needs updating in the article shared above? Am I misunderstanding the use of the term image blocking in both cases? Just means images are turned off, right?

Some of the inboxes listed in that post are outdated - for example Gmail is now using image caching and loading images by default. Are there other updates? Does Litmus have a new list/chart/blog post?

Replied to Discussion: Community Contest: Email Mistakes and the Lessons Learned by Jessica Best 2015-10-01 23:17:27

How very timely as I just had a "Get up from my desk, pace the office, sick to my stomach, howcouldIhavebeensuchadummy" nightmare about a week ago! We were doing some testing of recent upgrades, and I had set up my newsletter template to automatically be assigned to the newsletter subscribers group. (Nifty feature, right?) I was using that template to test, I added myself and one of my developers to the recipients group and no one else. No worries about sending it... Until I got the first 20 out of office replies... Wait... WHO DID I SEND THIS TO??

So in the grand tradition of picking myself up and just admitting I'm human, I wrote an Oops email that garnered me an above average open and click through rate and a dozen actual human replies, ranging from "Thanks for the chuckle" to "Now THAT's an apology email!" I even had someone tweet me that it sounded like a Fireball Whiskey kind of day at the office and then... he actually delivered a bottle to me. It did sort of make it better.

The mistakes are gut wrenching, but the email marketing community makes it a little better :)

Lesson: A little humility goes a long way. Self-deprecating humor doesn't hurt either.

Replied to Discussion: What ESPs are you using for promotional and transactional emails? by Jessica Best 2015-07-30 19:59:27

@Dan, I work at a digital marketing software provider, and would be happy to tell you about our product and the types of clients that use it. In addition to sending marketing and transactional emails, our Platform also offers social media posting, landing pages, surveys, forms and modal generators, and we recently incorporated a brand monitoring tool from Spiral16. Oh, and the Litmus email rendering and spam filter check tools are integrated into our Platform (which we love)! Shoot me an email at expert@emfluence.com, I'd love to chat about your ESP needs.
