Email Marketing Specialist at Catholic Relief Services

CRS needs an experienced email marketer to support our email marketing efforts across multiple departments. The person filling this new position will build effective, high-converting email templates in our digital marketing system; create, test and send emails as requested by our colleagues; run and analyze reports; and help to optimize CRS' email marketing strategies to realize its full potential. You'll report to the Email Marketing Manager within the CRS Digital Team, and will collaborate with developers, designers, writers, database managers, analysts and our UX/digital strategist, among others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build effective, high-converting email templates using EveryAction, our digital marketing system
  • Ensure email requests align with an overall marketing calendar
  • Support our Church Engagement teams with standard email campaigns, including acquisition, multi-channel engagement, and emergency email. (Please note: in rare cases, emergency emails may need to be created after hours.)
  • Troubleshoot HTML, CSS and other performance issues to ensure identical rendering across browsers, ESPs, and devices
  • Ensure mobile-friendly templates and adherence to brand standards
  • Make recommendations on acquisition and list growth
  • Support IP warm-up strategies for new lists
  • Support re-engagement efforts
  • Recommend special projects, segmentation strategies, testing plans for optimization (i.e A/B testing of subject lines, length, etc.), and key performance indicators
  • Collaborate to ensure the health of our lists and address list health consequences (such as removal from IP blacklist lists)
  • Monitor to prevent over-mailing to subscribers (i.e., list fatigue)
  • Ensure all email efforts comply with current email best practices
  • Receive and monitor peer organizations' email efforts
  • Stay current with the latest email techniques and technologies, and digital marketing trends

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, and 4+ years of experience
  • Experience with email tools (Blackbaud Luminate, EveryAction, Exact Target, NCR, etc.) required
  • Experience implementing responsive email design
  • Strong HTML and CSS experience
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop (or similar)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to troubleshoot coding problems such as padding on tables, button rendering, image rendering on mobile devices, etc.
  • Familiarity with database concepts and segmentation
  • Experience in email campaign building and list selection preferred
  • Knowledge of SQL a plus
  • Experience in digital fundraising and advocacy a plus
