Is it better to use sub domain of your website domain, or to use sub domain of a separate domain dedicated for emailing?
Hello fellas =)
Just wanted to ask this question:
Is it better to use sub domain of your website domain, or to use sub domain of a separate domain dedicated for emailing?
Even better:
If the website domain has bad reputation - and that we want to help restore the reputation - is it better to re-segment this damaged domain into subdomain, or should we simply go for a separate domain that isn't linked to a website, and create sub domains there?
I don't have an informed answer for your second question, but for your first question, IMO I always feel more confident opening an email and clicking on a link if the domains at least looks like what I would expect them to. So if I get an email from Nike, I want to see some variation of "nike.com" in them. The further you are from this ideal (like nikeemail.com), the more likely I am to suspect phishing.
Email clients do a fairly good job at hiding the actual from address, so IMO this bears more on links than on the from. And of course, I suspect typical email users aren't as aware as us email marketers. But I would still consider the "brand" of your email as part of your overall brand and use a subdomain of your site. If you switch providers, you just create a new subdomain for that provider (and plan for that when you pick your first subdomain).
