Breakdown of end-user email software
Has anyone got a good handle on the typical breakdown of end-user email software? There are, on occassion, times when an email just won't behave itself in one or two email packages, and it would therefore be good to know what the average user has installed so I can decide if that specific email package is worth spending time on to resolve.
The problem is, that a "typical user" would likely not be a representation of your own customer base.
You may take a look at http://emailclientmarketshare.com/ to see opens by email client. Just note, that some clients are over- and others under-represented due due to default image loading or blocking behavior.
I suggest, that you track your users with Litmus' email analytics at least once to find out more about email clients used by your users. As an alternative you could also take a look at your website's statistics, if you don't have the right package to use the email analytics feature.
Thanks, very helpful.
The Gmail app is also under represented because theres no way to distinguish between the app and the desktop client.
This and the fact that Gmail will soon support outlook and hotmail accounts means that the Gmail app is more important than ever.
