A Little Litmus Community Redesign
Hey email geeks!
Some of you may have noticed that the Litmus Community is looking a little different today. That's because, after nearly four years, we've redesigned the Litmus Community!
Since its release in 2013, the Community has been a growing and increasingly vital resource for email professionals everywhere. We've seen thousands of discussions and users connecting over email, along with millions of visitors using the Community to learn about email, troubleshoot problems, and build better campaigns. It's been hugely rewarding to see.
Four years is a long time, though, and we felt it was finally time to bring the Community into 2017.
With that in mind, we made a few changes to the Litmus Community to streamline things and build a foundation for future improvements. While nothing has really changed functionality-wise (for now), we redesigned the Community for a cleaner, more readable experience. Along with bringing the Community more in-line with the rest of the Litmus platform, we stripped things down and put a focus back on the content and resources in the Community.
The bulk of the work, though, was on refining the Community under the hood. You won't see those changes right now, but we made some improvements to lay the foundation for future Community enhancements and features. Mum's the word on what some of those features might be, but we're excited to have a solid platform on which to build them.
I think we caught all the major bugs during QA, but if you notice anything strange, please email us at hello@litmus.com.
Thank you everyone for being such a huge part of the Community (hell, you are the Community). Everyone at Litmus is looking forward to another 4 years as we continue to grow something so special together. Cheers!
Hi Jason,
RE: “…a cleaner, more readable experience”
Please consider running some usability and readability tests on that assumption. I would highly recommend a more inclusive approach that starts with a larger base font size, and larger still in smaller viewports.
One more observation: if you use select an option to sort the discussions list then visit a post and use your browser history back, the selected sort is retained. However, if you select the “discussions” tab, your previous sort is not retained and reverts to the default sort of “most active”. Personally, I would prefer my selection to be retained. It would also be nice to have a feature that allows the default sort to be selected at the account level, as I am sure we would all like to see different things. For example, I prefer “newest”. If none of this is possible, I wonder if a community vote to chose the default sort would help? Finally, the topic label is displayed in the list view, but does not persist in the post view. This would be a nice-to-have contextual cue.
Cheers!
Thanks, Charles! I'm passing this along to our design team, it's great feedback and will help us refine the Community. Cheers!
