I have the simplest of all emails imaginable to which I have added Jason Rodriguez's hybrid/spongy coding for Outlook. The email looks good on all clients that recognize max-width. No matter what I do, Outlook ignores the ghost table, producing this obnoxiously wide email on a desktop.

Here's the code:

<table width="100%" cellspacing="0">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td align="center"><!-- >
<!-- [if (gte mso 9)|(IE)]>
<table cellpadding = "0" cellspacing="0" width="600" align="center">
<tr>
<td align="center" width="600">
<![endif]-->
<table style="max-width: 600px; border: 3px solid #002d9b;" border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="5">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td> This is where the text goes- renders perfectly except for Outlook
<br /><br />
</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<!-- [if (gte mso 9)|(IE)]>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<![endif]--></td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>

I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks
Susan
