Email Client vs Device Market Share
I recently looked at November email client market share as given by http://emailclientmarketshare.com/. Specifically, it showed that Apple iPhone led with 34% and Google android was at 8%. But I don't see how this coincides with data from IDC (and others such as Gartner) that shows Android devices to dominate at around 80%-85% and iPhone devices are around 10%-15%. I know I'm looking at apples and oranges, but this is a large discrepancy. What am I missing?
Is this the IDC article you are referring to? https://www.idc.com/prodserv/smartphone-os-market-share.jsp
I think what this article is talking about is the actual android vs. iphone market share, as opposed to email market share.
Android phones come in a variety of price ranges, so I believe that it only follows that they have a much bigger market share than the iPhone. However, when it comes to emails, there are different stats to consider altogether, which is why you are seeing a big discrepancy in the numbers.
Yes, that's the IDC article. I was surprised because you wouldn't expect Android phones to run Apple email clients. Since Android dominates the OS market, wouldn't you expect the email client to follow suit?
