Election 2016 Email Results
Did anyone notice lower than average open and click rates on emails the Wednesday and/or Thursday after Election day (Nov 8 2016)? I'm wondering how impactful external factors are on our email campaigns. Did Election Day 2016 impact your email marketing results? Do the effects vary based on industry, age, location of target audience?
I think that people were preoccupied with elections and its results during that day, so opening their emails were their least priority. The impact of the elections were most likely deemed a bigger issue, and people may have thought that opening their emails, be it for work or leisure is so trivial compared to the election results. Social media, during times like national elections day, is more likely the go-to platform for users, to check what other people think about the current events.
Do the effects vary based on industry, age, location of target audience? -- YES. Although I think not so much the industry. Regardless of what industry a person may belong to, they are still affected by the results of the election, and if Trump can help in their individual success or not.
