Gmail announced the Gmail App supports now media queries but is it working for you?!?
Hey folks,
Google announced last week its Gmail app displays now responsive emails through media queries. I tested some responsive emails and also the code from their page, https://developers.google.com/gmail/design/css but it's everything like before, non responsive.
I was looking into updating the Gmail app on the testing Andoid phones but it looks like it's already the latest version.
Also wondering if this will work with iPhone.
Did you guys give it a try, is it working for you?
The duo over at TABLE TR TD made a quick little email that gets sent to you every day to check. Just sign up and view in Gmail: http://tabletrtd.com/is-it-later-this-month-yet/
Is this still coming? I'm getting impatient.
this doesn't look like is working even after this time
I still haven't noticed any changes on my GmailApp either...
It is workining in both iOS and Android app sinds at least a week
Has anyone saw responsive email on Inbox by Gmail?
A mailing I tested yesterday on Inbox was semi responsive. It put my 3 col layout into 2 col and looked nice, but it still is not changing the font size for mobile. The GMail app however still doesn't do anything responsive from what I can tell. I was coming on the forum to see if anyone else was seeing the promised responsiveness and I was just missing something in my code.
have you updated your gmail app to the latest version?
On our test devices, yes we did. Still nothing yet, as of beginning of December 2016.
Strange. Today i've tested my newsletter on 10 different android phones (colleagues) in the GMail app and it worked perfect.
Make sure to double check your CSS. None of my email displayed responsive until I did this https://litmus.com/community/discussions/5938-coding-responsive-email-in-gmail-app
@ Zoran; it is time we ditch attribute selectors indeed. We did this because yahoo ignored the media queries and interpreted the CSS inside it. But that is fixed. So we don't need them anymore for that reason.
Wow, I didn't know that could be the issue.
Definitely going to test this with my emails too.
Is it time we totally ditch attribute selectors? Did you find any issues anywhere not using them?
Hi Vic,
I can't wait to see it in action, but I'm under the impression the announcement was about an upcoming change before the end of September.
"Starting later this month, Gmail and Inbox by Gmail will support emails created with responsive design, meaning their content adapts to fit screens of all sizes." https://gmail.googleblog.com/2016/09/better-emails-tailored-to-all-your-devices.html
Cheers,
Nathan
it's weird because the wording on the Google developers page with the announcement makes you think they rolled this out already.
Yeah I'm eager to start too - hope we can do some cool things when the changes roll out!
I test it every day since the announcement, but the result is still negative. They promised it in this month... Well, tomorrow is the last day, so they still have time. ;) :D
I'm kind of afraid that'll roll out at midnight or something and we'll wake up to calls from angry clients.
