What do you think of the new Dreamweaver?
About a week ago, the new Dreamweaver beta started making the rounds. On top of a new interface, it looks like it has more features on par with modern text editors like Sublime Text and Atom. And they even built in some email templates which look like they're based on Ted Goas's Cerberus template.
Although we're big fans of Builder ;-) Dreamweaver is a hugely popular among email designers. So that begs the question:
Who's tried out the Dreamweaver beta and what do you think of it so far?
I only need an HTML editor with a design preview as well, this is the only reason I use DW. Also the search is pretty good and I use it a lot, mainly because I'm able to use regex and because I can search in folders as well so it will search throughout all files code from a location and that is truly powerful. Everything extra has no real use for me. In fact there is one thing that bothers me with the recent updates - I was able before to see highlighted the code with errors but not anymore - now available for all files except HTML and JS. Really bad, that was helpful when building emails.
I've yet to abandon Dw bc it has always come w/ the suite, and now, CC subscription. Out of the box has a couple features that in Sublime or Atom I would have to install (Emmet, code coloring, ftp., etc). When I scored my 1st design job, the entire site was a .ste dreamweaver file so even with its bloat it all worked out.
All that said, I'm enjoying the beta version! It has preprocessor support which is a huge timesaver, the Ui is much more friendly, modern and consistent between Ai and Ps as well. My only gripe is now I can't use split code view with SASS. Other than that, I'm all over the update
yeah thats the one thing im still trying to figure out...the split view. at least for my purposes i found it much easier, for debugging, to have multiple views but they dont have that option or at least i havent discovered it yet.
I'm not a Dreamweaver user (don't understand why people like it really), but the only new addition that seems to be a massive improvement is the 'Quick Edit' functionality.
what other editor you use with a design preview?
Adobe Brackets has a live preview function built in.
I use Litmus Builder, naturally 😉
