What will it mean when people can remove the iOS Mail app?
You may have seen this on Product Hunt last night, a leaked screenshot of Apple Mail on the app store:

Someone then dropped a link to Apple announcing the ability to delete iOS 'stock' apps:

Going to be really interesting to see whether this prompts more users to jump to other mail apps, and whether we'll see more mail apps. Just made out lives harder?
Android Mail v Android other mail apps it may hint at how this might pan out.
The "50% rule" when pitching interactive email ideas has always been a good line, but if this falls dramatically perhaps heavily interactive ideas wont be worth the investment..?
Too soon to know I guess, roll on September's client usage figures...
It won't change behavior for a majority of users. They'll use whatever's easiest most convenient - whether that's the app that comes with the phone or the app that appears from a trusted company when they search for "Email" on an app store.
Even those who do dabble will most likely find a quirk or two where the new challenger does things just differently enough or doesn't integrate quite as well and they'll switch back to the stock offering.
I don't see people dropping it if that's what they use already, just because it will be deletable. If people want to use another email app, then they probably do already.
I know a lot of people who do not use the Apple Mail app, and still prefer to use another email app that pushes emails in real time. I, for one, has been using Apple gadgets for a very long time but I am still disappointed how the Apple Mail app works. I use both the Gmail and Apple Mail app, but emails come sooner in the Gmail app.
I don't think a lot of people would mind. Unless Apple finds a way to level up how their mail app works, then this would not be a problem. In fact, users would probably like to have the option to delete stock apps that they don't use.
