How do you keep innovating & pushing forward?
I'm sitting here with a few campaigns I need to design and build. None of them are all too spectacular in concept. A lot about sending regular commincations to customers and some informative pieces. Nothing too groundbreaking.
All the same, I'd like to keep pushing the email campaigns forward, in terms of design and build. I'm struggling to think of ideas on what I can inject into them to push them forward and keep me on my toes.
How do you guys keep pushing the boundaries for ho-hum sort of campaigns?
Start making a list of all the interesting things you see in emails you like, it could be anything from animation, to iconography, to layout, etc... Then start going down the list and figure out how you can incorporate that into your biggest campaigns.
That's a really good and practical idea actually. Feel a bit silly for not thinking of something like this already!
I always challenge myself to try at least 1 new innovative technique for every marketing email that we send. It's too much to do in every single transactional email, but for dedicated sends for our main newsletters I try to at least implement 1 new technique and see how it performs.
P.S. Jason Rodriguez and myself are doing a talk @ #TEDC14 titled "Designing for Emotion in Email" that covers this exact topic in depth, so be sure to check that out.
Thanks, Kevin. Challenging myself to think of just one think I can push myself on my big sends is definitely a great idea. Design or code wise.
Will defo check that talk out :)
