Background Image & Autofit Issues on Gmail App
Hi all -
If I open an email using Gmail App / Android, and it's sent to my gmail address, background images and the autofit hack work fine, so the email is not distorted. (it displays the shrunken version of the desktop view). The autofit hack I'm referring to is this:
<div style="display:none; white-space:nowrap; font:15px courier; color:#ffffff;">
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
</div>
However, if I send the same email to my hotmail address (or yahoo address -- basically to an account other than a gmail account) and open it in Gmail App / Android, the background images don't display, and the autfit issue resurfaces.
Has anyone esle seen this, or know of any work-arounds?
I use dashes / non-breakable spaces for iphone, and a spacer img for android.
Maybe try the spacer?
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply.
I was actually able to make it work by adding a min-width setting to a full-width image in the email.
I kept the no-wrap div for gmail app/android (sent to a gmail address).
It seems the addition of the min-width attribute on the full-width image made it work for gmail app/android (sent to a hotmail address).
I'm still working on the background image issue.
Any luck on the background image issue? I recently ran into the same issue.
Hi Ryan,
The issue I'm seeing is that background images do not display in an email sent to a Hotmail (or other non-Google address) when opened in Gmail app.
I contacted the nice people at Campaign Monitor -- in reference to the bulletproof background generator tool -- and they confirmed that background images are stripped (by Gmail, perhaps?) in the above scenario.
Background images DO display for Hotmail in other clients.
At this time, there is no work-around that I am aware of.
Thanks for your response Anne Marie. I sent feedback in the Google App a few times and received a support email saying I could call my issue in. So I might try that.
