Subject Lines: Bold , Color?
I think I know the answer to this question, but is it possible to change the color or to bold the subject line?
From what I know, its limited to display plain text only, but I wantred to reach out to the community at large. Thank you for your time and thoughts.
George
@Ian Mansfield - that Mathmatical Bold unicode characters really opened a new door. I have no idea what we'll use them for yet, but here are a few awesome resources I pulled together that are related:
Unicode Characters for Subject Line copy/paste: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/block/mathematical_alphanumeric_symbols/list.htm
Strikethrough/underline copy/paste tool:
https://manytools.org/facebook-twitter/strikethrough-text/
Unicode Emoji copy/paste:

**Obviously test these in Litmus' subject line testing tool, because I have seen some inconsistent renderings with the small caps across different styles. **
I have not done any SPAM testing, although I am concerned that the rarely used characters might trip something. Anybody able to weigh in on this?
Here's another good one for your list Mike http://www.panix.com/~eli/unicode/convert.cgi?text=Email+rocks
Great resources @Mike_Blank & @Mark_Robbins -- I just took the panix tool for a spin... game changer.
One thought, is there any risk of these characters and symbols triggering spam filters? It seems generally accepted that Emoji doesn't penalize deliverability... which I suppose is also an extension of unicode. Any thoughts?
Oh yeah another one I use is https://unicode-table.com/en/ it's got a good search in it.
I don't think there will be much of an issue with triggering spam, however there is a risk of characters not rendering.
Subject: ▋▋▋▋▋▋▋
Subject lines to date have only displayed ASCII text. With that said there are some things you can do that go beyond plain text or symbols that are supported. Try this tool https://manytools.org/facebook-twitter/strikethrough-text/ and test test test
No, it isn't possible. You can't control how the subject is displayed in an email client. However, you can add icons to the subject.
Is this possible now? I got an email today from EMS with bold letter. Maybe they are not real "letters"?
May have used Mathematical Bold unicode characters which render -- in supporting clients -- as bold text.
Thinking outside for a moment, it is possible to create extensions for certain email clients. Perhaps their APIs extend to the UI view of the list / envelope / inbox. This would be an extremely limited audience, but theoretically possible.
@Ian - that's what I was thinking. This is the subject they used:
