Vote Email into SXSW 2012

[ 0 By

Voting is underway for SXSW panel proposals, and we need your help to get email back in the spotlight at SXSW 2012!

After attending in 2010 and 2011, I was disappointed in the lack of representation for email-related topics. I vowed to make next year different and followed through on that promise by organizing a brainstorming powerhouse with many of the amazing, smart, and influential email marketing experts I’ve met since I joined the Litmus team. The four panels you’ll find below are the result.

We need your support!

30% of the panel selection is based on community voting, so your votes can help us get selected! All you need to do is register for the PanelPicker and visit the links below to give your “thumbs up”. If you’re feeling especially generous, please add comments, ask questions, or generally wax enthusiastic about how much you love email marketing. Your interaction helps prove that these topics are worthwhile!

The Panels

What’s More Dead: Email or Startups Without It?

Smart startups tap into email to save time, build trust, measure effectiveness and drive revenue, while leaving you to focus on your product and the business. This panel will focus on email as an indispensable tool that allows you to connect with investors and customers quickly, easily, and for relatively little expense.

We’ll talk about what to do with customers email addresses, avoiding being labeled a spammer, and the benefits of email vs. social media.

Do Constraints Help or Hurt Creativity?

Designers take into account limitations in resources, time and production as part of the creative problem solving process. When none are presented to us, does it benefit us to create those boundaries for ourselves to work within? When we have a tightly constrained box to work inside, does it incite innovation, or does it kill the creativity within?

Let’s all get together, wear our badge of limitations with pride, and talk about how we can use them to have a more creative and sustainable career

Why Email Is For More Than Just Zombies

Despite some claims that email is a dead medium, that’s far from the truth. Email is alive and well and not just for marketing zombies. It may have lost its “cool factor” in today’s social media world, but try signing up for a social media account without an email. What about the receipts you get after returning a movie at RedBox or when you update your password with your ING Direct account? We challenge you to imagine a world without email. If the digital apocalypse happened right now and email had vanished, what would you do?

Email isn’t a medium for just zombies. We’ll show you how (and avoid any eaten brains in the process).

Solving Design Problems with Media Queries

This presentation will explore the creation of mobile content via media queries and the issues associated with engaging your audience in a mobile environment. It will also open discussion on enhancing the usability and accessibility of your designs and exploring how media queries can help both the designer and programmer.
