Streamline Your Email Workflow: A Video Tour of Litmus Builder0
We are thrilled to have launched Litmus Builder—the first code editor built for email designers by email designers. With Builder you can easily create, test, and share your emails. Among many other amazing features, you can see edits to your email in real time right within the preview pane, as well as create snippets for commonly used elements, like bulletproof buttons. Creating and testing your emails as never been easier or faster!
A WALK THROUGH OF BUILDER
To showcase Builder in all of its glory, we hosted two webinars to cover its features and functionalities. Didn’t have a chance to attend? Don’t worry! You can check out our recording above.
With hundreds of registrants and lots of features to walk through, we didn’t have time to get to all of the questions during the Q&A portion of the webinars. We’ve answered all of the questions we missed here on the blog.
How much does Builder cost?
Builder is available at no cost—all you need is a free Litmus account (you can easily create one!). It’s free to create and share your designs; however, in order to test your newly created, amazing emails in Builder, you must have a paid Litmus subscription. You can upgrade to a paying account within your Litmus login.
Are all of the templates in Builder responsive? Are they pre-tested?
While you are able to create and add templates of your own, there are default templates that are automatically stored in every user’s account. These templates are a collection of the most popular and well-rendered templates in the email design community. They are either responsive or adaptive, and have been pre-tested.
Are there any restrictions on using Builder templates? Do you have to include the copyright in them?
All of the default templates provided in Builder are open source and free. Please use them at your own discretion and, if available, read the policy of each individual template. Contact the template authors if you have any additional questions.
Are custom templates and snippets available to other team members, or only to you?
All templates and snippets are available to every team member in an account. Whenever the template or snippet is created, or edited and saved, they are automatically updated for all teammates.
Are there any keyboard shortcuts?
You bet! We have a shortcut for some of the most common tasks:
- Save: Use the shortcut command Cmd+S (Mac) or Ctrl+S (Windows) to automatically save the email.
- Find and replace: To access Find and Replace, use the shortcut command Cmd+F (Mac) or Ctrl+F (Windows).
- Undo: To undo the most recent change to an email, simply use the shortcut command Cmd+Z (Mac) or Ctrl+Z(Windows). You have the ability to undo actions all the way to the last recorded save of an email.
Which browsers do you recommend using Builder in?
Since Chrome and Safari use WebKit as a rendering engine—and WebKit accounts for 47% of email client market share—we highly recommend using those two browsers. However, Firefox is also a good option. Due to its limited support for the web development technologies used in Builder, we do not recommend using Internet Explorer.
Does Builder have a built-in CSS inliner?
Yes! You can see a full overview of our tool and CSS inliners here.
Are there any default snippets that are included?
Currently, Builder doesn’t include a default snippet library. We’re definitely planning on adding one soon!
Which Email Service Providers (ESPs) does Builder support for the autocompletion code tags?
You can find the list of ESPs that Builder currently supports for autocompletion code tags below.
- Constant Contact
- Campaign Monitor
- Taxi for Email
If your ESP isn’t listed, don’t worry—we plan on adding more in the future. Email us at email@example.com so we can make sure we add yours to the list.
Can you use Builder to create a text version of the HTML?
You can use Builder and the preview pane to manually create a plain text version of your email. However, when testing your email, Builder will not automatically create a plain text version for the Litmus test.
How does Builder deal with dynamic content?
Builder will render dynamic content as plain text in the preview pane. Since Builder does not currently have ESP integration (it’s on our roadmap!), dynamic content has no reference.
How many emails can be saved in a project?
You can save as many emails to a project as you want. There is no limit.
Is there an image library or an easy way to move images across emails?
Currently, there is no image library in Builder. All images are tied to individuals emails and must be re-uploaded for each email, or use absolute path URLs across all images.
