This Month in Community: Gmail, Must-Subscribe Brands, Email Frequency, and More0
The Litmus Community is the place for email designers, developers and marketers to discuss their craft, talk about industry news, and join in the (occasional) controversial rant and discussion.
In case you haven’t been keeping up, here’s what happened this month in the Community.
Gmail’s the word
The biggest news to hit the email geek world was Gmail’s announcement that it will soon be supporting embedded css, media queries, and finally providing some killer developer documentation for email developers—something which has never been done by any email client vendor!
Email geeks took to the Community, slightly incredulous that this was actually happening. Yes, it’s happening! We’re excited to see the changes take place in Gmail, and learn from the Community on how this will change the way email developers code their emails. Will you change how you code your emails when the Gmail update goes live?
Email marketing–boom or bust?
Here’s an interesting, but perhaps controversial topic, posted this month, discussing whether there’s a glass ceiling on careers in email marketing. It’s a serious question to consider for anyone thinking of diving into a career in the email industry.
In some fields, email marketers often have to wear multiple hats. In others, the industry is getting more specialized. Email developer, copywriter, deliverability expert, campaign manager, email designer–these are becoming common roles in email marketing.
Join in the discussion–do you think the email marketing profession is doomed to go bust?
Having an awareness of what other brands are doing is one of the best ways to keep yourself up-to-date in email marketing. In this discussion, email geeks share their must-subscribe brands–those emails they love to see in their inbox.
The reasons why Community members call out some brands as “must-subscribe” vary, from creative email designs and innovative email development techniques to great subject lines or unique brand stories.
Weigh-in with your must-subscribe brands or get some inspiration for your own campaigns.
The age-old question: How many emails?
Community member Tommy Phillips asked this month about the frequency of emails sent to a subscriber in a week, or even a day. You won’t be surprised to find out that many of the replies included the words “it depends.”
There are many factors to bear in mind when sending emails within a certain time frame.
Community members share their thoughts on what those factors are, including expectations of subscribers, type of industry, value of emails, and more. How often do you send emails?
