Dear Anne, Did you know that more than 1.1 million volunteer donors on the Be The Match® marrow registry are Hispanic or Latino? That's a remarkable number because it means that 80-87% of Hispanic or Latino patients in need of a marrow transplant will find a match. But that is not enough, our goal is that 100% of patients with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma find their match. Because patients are most likely to match with someone of their same heritage, as a member of the Hispanic or Latino community and the Be The Match Registry®, you play a vital role in our life-saving work - and we thank you. This Hispanic Heritage Month, we want you to know how much your dedication means to us. Every second counts when a patient's life is at stake, so it's important that you know: * If you're contacted as a match, always call us back - even if you aren't sure about your decision to donate. Be The Match staff will answer any questions you may have about donation. * Donors never have to pay to donate marrow. All aspects of marrow donation are covered - including travel expenses, child care, meals and hotels. * The average time commitment for the donation process is 20-30 hours over a four-to-six-week period. While you wait to be a match, you can help patients by recommitting to your life-saving pledge. Tell us you stand ready to donate. recommit now If you've previously recommitted, thank you. Please feel free to recommit again. We use your response in our work with patients.     Get the Facts: *  How is a matched determined? *  How likely is it I will match a patient? *  What is the marrow donation process like?
