What makes you so special?   Hi Anne, As a young person on the Be The Match® marrow registry, you could be the cure for patients with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. Why ages 18-44 matter: Young volunteer donors like you are selected by transplant physicians to donate more than 90% of the time! That's because younger donors produce more and higher-quality cells than older donors. Studies also show that patients who receive donated cells from younger donors have a better chance for long-term survival. What you need to know: * If you're contacted as a match, always call us back - even if you aren't sure about your decision to donate. This saves critical time when doctors are working to save a life. * There are two methods of donation: peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) and marrow. The doctor chooses the donation method that is best for the patient. * Donors never have to pay for donating or incur out-of-pocket expenses. All aspects of donation are covered - including travel expenses, child care, meals and hotel. * The average time commitment for the donation process is 10-30 hours over a four to six-week period.   What you can do now: You established your commitment to the registry on Mar 18, 2010 with a swab of your cheek or blood sample. Please renew your commitment today with the click of a button. Renewing your commitment tells us we can count on you to be available if you're called as a match, and we use this information when we work with transplant doctors. Thank you for being a part of the Be The Match Registry®, a community of more than 11 million people passionate about saving lives through marrow donation.
