A Closer Look at Email Engagement

Reputation and engagement are increasingly important factors when it comes to reaching your audience through email marketing. Running your emails through Litmus’ spam filter analysis tool can give you an indication of the likelihood of your email being marked as spam, but subscriber (in)activity can ultimately determine whether your email makes it to the inbox.

Our infographic provides a closer look at engagement filtering behaviors for Gmail and Hotmail, reasons why subscribers become disengaged with email, and tips for increasing engagement.

It’s all in the details

Engagement (and email delivery in general) can be difficult to manage. While this graphic provides a great overview, many of the sources we quoted offer in-depth articles and advice on the topic of subscriber engagement. We definitely recommend checking these out, too!

I like that “Losing Interest” graphic. It’s a big, yes

Funnily enough the email that brought me to this page was also the one which made me hit ‘unsubscribe’… Coincidence? Yes. But still, there you go.

We certainly don’t want you to receive emails you’re not finding valuable, Luke! Now my question is, what could we have done to kept you interested and engaged to prevent you from unsubscribing?

Love the info, but finding it difficult to read the graphics. Type is too small and fuzzy.
    Thanks.

Hi Nate, thanks for the feedback! I realize that our blog template makes the text a bit hard to read at this size. Have you viewed the graphic full size? Here’s a link: http://litmus.com/blog/subscriber-engagement-infographic/litmus-subscriber-engagement-infographic

Hi, quick question: where do the stats come from for the “Losing Interest” section come from / do you know the source?

    • http://www.litmus.com Justine, Litmus

Most of those stats came from ExactTarget’s “Subscribers, Fans, and Followers” research reports linked to above. If I recall, the “Losing Interest” stats came from the “Social Breakup” report: http://www.exacttarget.com/subscribers-fans-followers/social-breakup.aspx

Thanks Justine, that ExactTarget report is really useful :)
